The Town of Big Stone Gap has applied for funding from the Virginia Drinking Water Supply Revolving Fund Program to:  complete the planning documents, including the Preliminary Engineering Report, Environmental Assessment, and Final Design for an upgrade project at the Town’s intake and raw water line.  The project consists of the installation of a settling basin, approximately 600 linear feet of 16-inch raw water line, four 10-inch gate valves, an 8-inch blow off on the new raw water line, and all associated appurtenances.  The new settling basin will be installed in-place of the current collection box.  The new raw water line will be installed adjacent to the existing line in previously disturbed areas.  No in stream work will take place.  The construction area of this project is on previously disturbed land within the property boundaries of the Water Treatment Plant.

The funding request for the Planning Grant was $50,000.  The opinion of probable cost for the proposed project is $363,591; the funding request will be determined at a later date.  A description of the project and an Environmental Assessment of the project are on file at the Town Municipal Building located at 505 E. 5th St., S., Big Stone Gap, VA and available for public review between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday.
