A Brief Overview
|
Excerpts from an article appearing in
the September 1938 edition of The Post reveal the following:
"The Terrace Log Cabin is being built
by the National Youth Administration boys, which means not only that it
is giving employment to needy families in the community, but also that,
working under the direction of J. M. Blessing, these boys are receiving
valuable training for a trade."
"Upon its completion, the cabin will
be used as a "Little House" by all the Girl Scout organizations in the
Richmond District ... it will give them a suitable and convenient place
for overnight excursions."
The cabin's construction began in
1938; the first log placed upon its foundation was by Troop 1 of Big
Stone Gap. It opened in 1939 and National Girl Scout training
sessions were underway.
