Welcome to our “Internet Gateway” to Big Stone Gap, a Virginia Mountain Town, located on the Trail of the Lonesome Pine in Southwest Virginia.  As Mayor of Big Stone Gap, I hope you will enjoy the virtual (or pictorial) tour of our town and that you and your family will make plans to visit us real soon.

In the southwest corner of Virginia amid a flourishing mountainous landscape, nature unveils a scenic Powell Valley travel way leading to the Town of Big Stone Gap.  With a population of more than 5000, we are small enough to provide the comfort and security of small town living, yet we offer excellent educational and healthcare facilities as well as innovative technology in support of business development and growth.

In the Fall of 2013, our Town became the filming location and host to world renowned actors, as our own Adriana Trigiani produced and directed the filming of her internationally acclaimed book, Big Stone Gap.  In October of 2015, the Town was the location for the premiere of the movie, again hosting several of the actors, as well as welcoming thousands of visitors for the festivities and the exciting “red carpet walk.”

When you visit Big Stone Gap, please stop by our new downtown Visitor Center, located at 306 Wood Ave, E., for additional information about our Town and maps showing locations of local attractions.  I hope you allow time to absorb our rich history by visiting our four museums, watch a production of “The Trail of the Lonesome Pine Outdoor Drama,” and walk our Greenbelt Trail along the scenic Powell River.  Also, check the links for several festivals held throughout the year.

We hope to see you in “The Gap” real soon!
