Originally a Lee County native, Jerome Hill Duff lived in the house which is now
the June Tolliver House. He was the owner and manager of the Central Hotel which was
originally located across the street. Since there were no schools, he built this
little schoolhouse for his children. He secured Mrs. Virginia Frizzell Parrish as
governess and teacher for his children. The Bullitt, Kenkel, an Mills families also
sent their children here to school. The school was originally located behind the
hotel, but was later moved to its present location. |
The Duff Academy is located near the June Tolliver House and adjacent to the Trail of
the Lonesome Pine Drama.
